Summer Reading Club 2020 is for everyone: babies, kids, teens and adults. Read library books and earn prizes this summer.

Registration begins June 1. Register yourself with Beanstack online or with the Beanstack Tracker app on mobile devices. In person registration is available at the library. See the Summer Reading Club page for all the details. All prizes must be claimed by August 1.

Teenagers going into grades 6-12 can earn 2 prizes for reading library books. Read a total of 500 minutes to complete the Summer Reading Club.

  • read 200 minutes and earn a scented highlighter/pen combo
  • read 500 minutes and earn a $5 gift card

When you have finished reading, either log your reading with Beanstack or fill out the reading sheet. Come to the library and collect your prizes. There is a Challenge Sheet that teens can participate in to be entered into a drawing for a $10 gift card. For each additional 100 minutes of reading up to 500 minutes, the teen will be entered into the prize drawing. Each branch will be handing out 2 $10 gift cards.

imagine your story dragon2020 SUMMER TEEN SHORT STORY CONTEST

The Charlestown-Clark County Public Library invites teens to submit an original piece of writing for the Summer Teen Short Story Contest. Submitted stories will be posted on the library’s website, as well as the library’s social media pages.

PRIZES: 1st prize is a $25 Coffee Crossing gift card; 2nd prize is a $10 Coffee Crossing gift card

ELIGABILITY: Teens between the ages of 12 and 18 may submit an ORIGINAL work. Please limit one work per entrant.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES: All entries must be the original work of the author. Previously published works may not be used. The theme is Imagine Your Story: Fairy Tales, Mythology, and Folklore. All works must be acceptable to the general public. Any submitted piece that contains overt sexual, racist, discriminatory, violent, defamatory, libelous, slanderous, and demoralizing content will not be considered.

Please format your submission to match the following criteria:

  • No more than 1,500 words
  • Times New Roman, 12pt font, 1.5 line spacing
  • Save as a .doc, rtf, or as a Google Doc

Please remember to spellcheck and proofread your stories. The less errors your work has, the better chance you have of winning!

Entries may be submitted from July 1 to July 17, 2020. No late entries allowed.

JUDGING: The works will be judged by three library employees, all of whom have experience in language arts education, writing, and/or editing.

  • Please submit your entries electronically to cpedersen@clarkco.lib.in.us.
  • Please include TEEN SHORT ENTRY in the subject line.
  • The body of your e-mail should include: your work’s title, your full name, age, phone number.

Art at Home: Teen Canvas Painting

Local artist, Jennifer Cook, will be leading virtual canvas painting classes for students going into grades 6-12. A YouTube video will guide students through the painting process.

The kits will be available for pickup between June 25 - July 2 at the branch location you indicated.

Inklings is a creative thinking/writing group for teens and tweens. Bring your creative ideas to share with others. Open to students in grades 6-12.
